90 Minute Block Schedule vs 45 Minute classes
As the semester changed, the schedules also changed. In semester 1, each class was divided into 45 minutes. However, in the second semester, they changed the whole schedule to 90 minutes per class.
Before the school changed the schedule, the classes were evenly distributed over 5 weekdays. Therefore, having an equal amount of time spent on each class each day. But after the school changed the schedule, the four weekdays(Monday through Thursday), there are only four classes each day, 90 minutes each. On Fridays, all the classes that the students take are in one day, 45 minutes each. The number of classes and the total minutes per week don't change; they are equal. But the classes are divided into different days.
Personally, the positive thing about block scheduling is the decreased time spent on moving to different classes. The decreased time on changing classes increases the time to do classes. Also, the hallway is less cramped between classes because teachers give break times at different times. Lastly, the teachers can continue the class material for a longer period of time and not get interrupted in the middle because the class ended. The negative thing about a block schedule is for students who take AP classes.
Some students who take AP classes or students were dissatisfied with the new schedule because all their AP classes were crowded into one day. One reason the block schedule is bad is that it is hard to focus on one class for 90 minutes straight. Also, the classes are 90 minutes. Therefore, you have to spend more time on one class daily. The number of minutes is different, but the time spent each day increases.
