AI Hologram Police Officer Installed at Park in Seoul
A life-size 3D hologram police officer has been installed at Seoul Jeo-dong Park. This officer is a 3D hologram projected onto a sheet of acrylic plastic, operating between 7pm and 10pm every night. It was installed by the Seoul metropolitan police agency in October last year in an effort to reduce crimes, such as drunken violence and rubbery.
The digital officer delivers a prerecorded audio message saying, "In the event of violence or other emergencies, the police will respond in real time." The hologram repeatedly reminds parkgoers that the area is monitored by CCTV that police are ready to respond to emergencies in real time. Since the hologram was installed in October, reported crimes in the area have dropped by roughly 22 percent. While the hologram cannot arrest anyone, police say the digital presence alone is enough to deter bad decisions.
This project was launched as part of the station's "Creating Safe Parks in Jungbu" initiative, targeting areas with high demand for law enforcement, particularly those affected by alcohol-related and violent behavior. "We will continue expanding crime prevention measures using AI technology to create safer and more welcoming parks for our citizens," said the chief of the Seoul Jungbu Police Station. This hologram police is an example of how AI and technology are being used in daily life.
