I interviewed ASP VEX team about a competition they were in on Saturday, October 26th. The competition took place in Robotland in Korea, Incheon. Today I interviewed 3 members of the VEX team in our school to ask them some questions that we were curious about.

Q: Brief information about the Vex

What did you make? How does the competition work?

A: Jay Kim from G10 said for his group that "We made a basic part of claw - bot (didn't have much time to upgrade into higher level). For the competition at first we're competing teams by 2 vs 2, do some rounds and get points, then calculate the average of total points and rank the team."

Q: What went well and what didn’t?

A: Derek Rivera-Ream from G7 said for his group that "The thing that didn't go well was that our robot didn't work and there was a little bit of a teamwork issue as well. However the good thing was that we had good teammates and we scored pretty good points."

Q: How did you handle that problem when your robot didn't work?

A: Derek Rivera-Ream said that "Unfortunately we really didn't handle the robot problem because sometimes it did work and sometimes it didn't, but now it was just a past, sometimes bad luck just happens."

Q: What challenges did you face during the design phase?

A: Lauren Kim from G7 said for her group that "I don't think there were any challenges when I was building it because I was just following the instructions, so nothing was really challenging during the building."

Q: How did the team collaborate throughout the project?

A: Jay Kim said that "Actually sometimes robots are broken or have bad teamwork but on average we had really good teamwork with good teammates."

Q: What improvements can we identify for next year's competition?

A: Lauren Kim said that "On the robot, one thing that I found difficult during those actual matches was trying to line up correctly, accurately to score the goals. So one thing that I want to improve is to find a better way to get the robot into the right position to score."

Q: What was the result of the competition, are you satisfied with it?

A: Derek Rivera-Ream said that "I'm not satisfied with it because the robot, our team, was like 22nd. And the highest rank was 4th place which was pretty high."
