Teacher Profile - Ms.Du Fan
Interviewing Ms. Du Fan!

A. "I want to teach because teaching is a transformative journey for both my students and me. Each day, we grow together, intertwined in a cycle of learning and discovery. While I impart knowledge and guidance, my students reveal new perspectives and insights that expand my understanding of the world. This reciprocal exchange is what makes my work profoundly meaningful and fulfilling. Therefore, teaching is not a job for me, it's where I find the value."
A. "Motivating students begins with creating a space where they feel safe, valued, and inspired. I focus on making learning relevant to their lives and future, showing them that knowledge isn't just something to memorize but a lens for understanding view of the world. Encouraging a growth mindset helps them see that effort, not just talent, leads to growth. I celebrate their progress, foster curiosity, and incorporate their unique interests, so they feel connected to the material. Above all, I aim to build a trusting relationship, as genuine care is often the most powerful motivator, reminding them that they have someone who believes in their potential."
A. "I actually had a lot of dreams despite the fact. I wanted to be an astronaut, an astronomer, a painter, or a writer. However, to be realistic, if I have to work to meet my living standards, I might take an office work like many people do now.
Probably something like an editor, interpreter or accountant."
A. "The word inspired is big word for me, as I explained in the questions above. I think that the word teaching for me is more learning or say perceiving. I, myself also get the same result of growth. So, I think it’s obviously what I should do."
A. "I don’t see what I have as talent though. I think if I have to pick one, probably I might be a good chef, only for cooking Malatang or Hot pot. There are many other activities I really want to do with all of my students but never got the chance to do, like drawing the traditional brush paintings, writing Chinese calligraphy, and playing the traditional string musical instrument, Gu Zheng. These are all the activities we could do but never tried."
A. "The best thing about being a teacher is to build a relationship with all my students. Learning from each other, sharing all the inspiring moments, or getting through everyday little difficulties together. Knowing that I am needed to students and I can always have an eye on my students, to make sure they are doing well in every way."
A. "This is my favorite question ;) Actually, since I work for a STEM school, I really want to try all the STEM classes and programs. I’m actually doing some online courses for computer science, programming and finance. I also love all the literature.
My wish list goes:
Mr. Weeks, E.T programming with Python
Mr. Tian, AP Computer Science
Ms. Rebecca, AP Econ, AP Finance
Ms. G, English Language Arts
Ms. Baik, Geometry
Ms. Joyce, Linear Algebra
Mr. Armstrong, Social Study and World History
I do feel all these help me to understand everything around me better."
A. "The book I recommend for high schoolers is 'Tuesdays with Morrie.'
This is an inspiring book that might give you some advice or even answers to the big questions you might face now. The book is in ASP Library so check it out!"
