On Thanksgiving Day, people usually spend the day gathering with family and friends, eating meals, and engaging in other celebrations. Or people watching the Thanksgiving Day parade, playing football, volunteering, and playing games.
History of Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving started in 1621 when Pilgrims in Plymouth, Massachusetts, had a big feast with the Wampanoag Native Americans to celebrate their first successful harvest. The tradition continued in different ways for many years until 1683, when President Abraham Lincoln made it an official holiday to help bring people together during the Civil War. He chose the last Thursday of November for the celebration. Later 1941, it was decided that Thanksgiving would always be on the fourth Thursday of November.
