The Upcoming Squid Game 2

-Nicky Cha, RJ Kim
We are going to be introducing a Netflix series called 'Squid Game 2'. Squid Game 2 is a South Korean dystopian thriller drama series on Netflix written by Hwang Dong-Hyuk. The show centers on a secret competition in which 456 participants—all of whom are severely poor—risk their lives to compete in a series of dangerous kid's games in an attempt to earn a reward of ₩45.6 billion. The title of the series is derived from a Korean children's game of the same name. Hwang's personal financial hardships, the social divide in South Korea, and capitalism all influenced his concept. On September 17, 2021, the first season of Squid Game was broadcast globally to widespread praise and interest. With over 142 million member households and 1.65 billion viewing hours in its first four weeks, it surpassed Bridgerton as the most-watched show on Netflix and became the most-watched program in 94 countries. Production for the second season began in July 2023, and is scheduled to be released on December 26, 2024, followed by a third and final season in 2025.
Storyline of season 1
The basic setting is a story of people participating in a game of survival, risking their lives to win a large prize. The participants are usually people who are deep in debt and at a dead end in their lives when they enter the game. The games they participate in consist of a series of rounds based on games they enjoyed as children, and if they win they advance to the next round, but if they lose or break the rules they lose their lives. The main character, Seong Ki-hoon, joins the game while suffering from numerous debts and hardships. He makes this risky choice because he desperately wants to save his family. Other major characters include Kang Sae-byeok, a North Korean who dreams of being reunited with his younger brother, Ki-hoon's friend and talented investor Choi Sang-woo, who unfortunately went bankrupt, and various other characters who hopelessly participate in the game to make a living for their family. They trust and rely on each other in the game, but they also conflict to win the prize money in the end.
