Hangul Day!

Hangul Day!

Most countries have their own unique languages and of course, Korea has one too!

Hangul is Korea's official alphabet writing system. It was created by King Sejong the Great in 1443. To honor King Sejong's legacy, Hangul Day was created and recognized as a national holiday. It is celebrated on October 9th.

This holiday is extremely important to South Korean culture because Hangul's character designs were used to mimic the shape of the mouth and tongue when speaking. Before Hangul was created, people in Korea used Chinese. Therefore, Hangul is a reminder and an example of our independence!

You can spend Hangul day by resting, eating traditional food, and going to places filled with Korean activities.

If you want your Hangul Day to be fun and memorable, try preparing Korean activities to celebrate with family and friends!
