Did you know that there was a National UN Day? National UN Day is on October 24th, where countries within the United Nations including the five permanent security council members (who signed the founding charter) gather to discuss how to help other countries worldwide. Here are a few things that we do on UN Day. First, we can celebrate by hosting meetings, exhibits, and cultural shows. Also, some countries' landmarks light up in blue to support peace and human rights!

These days, the UN is formerly known as the UN Special. There are 193 UN involved countries. In addition, UN agencies and programs carry out practical, on-the-ground work worldwide to solve humanitarian crises, improve public health, eradicate poverty, and protect human rights.

UNICEF

UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) works in over 190 countries and territories to save children's lives and defend their rights. It is the world's largest buyer of vaccines. They have distributed them to nearly 45% of the world's children. It provides clean water, therapeutic food, and sanitation facilities while building schools and training teachers in vulnerable areas. UNICEF also fights against child labor, exploitation, and abuse; ensuring children grow up in safe environments.

WHO

Next, is WHO (World Health Organization). It is the global authority on public health, directing and coordinating international health responses. It coordinates global responses to health emergencies, such as pandemics, and leads campaigns to eradicate diseases like Polio and Malaria. It establishes global health guidelines, medicine safety protocols, and sanitary standards. It helps developing countries build resilient healthcare systems and trains local medical workers.

The final program is WFP (World Food Programme). WFP is the world's largest humanitarian organization focused on hunger and food security. It delivers immediate food aid, school meals, and cash transfers to homeless people or those affected by war, droughts, and natural disasters. It manages the massive supply chains and networks that allow other UN agencies and NGOs to transport relief goods to remote crises.

The UN is an important organization that aims to serve everyone equally!
